I can't believe it worked...

I thought for sure it would take days, maybe even weeks to completely break him of his pacifier habit. I am still in shock a bit that he was over it in basically one day. The first night was a little rough, I think I went into his room about 3-4 times to soothe him, but in total he probably only cried 10 minutes that entire night. And the next day all was back to normal. No crying at naps or bedtime, and he didnt even cry last night!!! I still cant believe it. He absolutely LOVED his bink at nap and bedtime, but thankfully its over and it wasn't nearly as bad as I was expecting:)

Made it through day 1

We decided (and when I say we, I really mean me) to take Austin's pacifier at 6 months. From everything I've read and heard, and reinforced by Austin's pediatrician, it is way easier to get rid of the bink around 6 months. Apparently after that they have better long term memory and its a harder habit to break. We were all set to do it Saturday, but he was sick and I didn't want to make life even worse for him. But this morning he woke up, fever free and back to his normal happy self, so I decided to just take the plunge and get rid of it. Nap 1 this morning he cried for about 10-12 minutes and then gave up and went to sleep. I cried for about 5-7 minutes, trust me it was probably harder on me then him:):) Nap 2 this afternoon he cried for about 8-9 minutes and then was out. Tonight at bedtime, he cried for 1 1/2 -2 minutes and that was it!!! I couldn't believe it. I was thoroughly epecting him to cry for hours because even though he hadn't used his pacifier during the day hardly at all, he loved his binky at nap and bed time. But, so far so good, day 1 wasn't bad. But, I am off to bed now, because I have no clue how it will go if he wakes up in the middle of the night and I am just preparing for the worst!!

Professional photos

We went this morning and had Austin's first professional pictures taken. Lets just say, it was a DISASTER!!! He had a terrible last 24 hours from his reaction to his shots (see previous post) and not getting any sleep and having a fever, so 9 am pictures were not ideal. He was also very scared of the guy taking his pictures, every time he talked to Austin he would start screaming and crying. It was so weird, he has never reacted to anybody like that before. Needless to say after about an hour of trying (with a short break in the middle to try to calm Austin down) we gave up and decided to just work with what we had. Normally they take about 60 shots to pick from, but we had only goten 17, so there wasn't a whole lot to choose from and a lot of them had either him crying or one of us in the picture trying to calm him down and get out of the way fast (but apparently not fast enough). But, we did pick out 4 pictures that were pretty good (not great becauase I think you can tell he looks like he doesnt feel good) but atleast we didnt have to go home empty handed. So, here are all the snap shots they got, we got a cd of them so I just uploaded them so you could see the struggle it was:):)

Not loving it at this point....

6 months old...

Its hard to believe our little guy is 6 months old already. Time sure has flown by, and we've enjoyed each and every minute of it!!! He is such a blessing to have in our lives and always brings a smile to our face, no matter how bad of a day we've had at work. We had his six month check-up on Friday, which of course meant more shots:(:( Nina (my mom) was here to go with us, and lets just say I'm not sure who cried harder after his shots, Austin or Nina:):) Normally the shots don't even phase him, but he has had a rough 24 hours since his shots. He has been continuously running a temperature around 100 and is definately not his normal happy self. But, we have been given him lots of water, tylenol, rest and TLC so hopefully he will start feeling better by tomorrow. He was 21lbs 6.5 oz (96th percentile), 28" (92nd percentile), and his head was in the 90th percentile this time (quite a jump from the 72nd percentile at 4 months, guess his brains are really growing:):) He is rolling once in a while, allthough not very often. He loves to jump in his jumper, he goes crazy in that thing now. And he is growing so fast I have already had to raise it up to level 2!!! He isnt crawling yet, but he was a little behind in rolling, so he probably will be a little slow with this too. He is sitting pretty good on his own, we still have some crashes, but he supports himself pretty good for the most part. He is definately starting to get his own little personality. He talks up a storm and is super excited to see mom and dad when we come home from work. Other then that, not much else, just one happy, growing little boy!!!
